The city lives but we are dying

The city lives but we are dying

Cd Juarez, Mexico, Juarez Ave "La Juarez"

The city is alive but we are all dying,
on the fading memories of sandstone buildings
and what it once was

The city lives but we are dying,
on the red blood asphalt and sandy corners
forgotten, left behind

The city is but we are nothing,
in boarded up coffee shops and empty barstools
that miss our touch

The city feels but we can’t touch it,
In the empty living rooms of broken families
by bullets and lies

The city drinks but we can’t swallow,
haunted by reality of corrupt systems
ruled by greed and guns

The city breathes yet we are choking,
on left over smoke from blank street signs
and hanging death traps

The city laughs but we are crying,
no more street vendors, or carts and beggars
brightening our paths

The city sleeps but we are wakeful,
thinking of children killing their children
under a fading sun

The city lives but we are dying,
and slowly draining its wondering spirits
from the cracking walls

The city is alive but we are all dying,
will its fading memories of brighter decades
bring us back to life?
